Circular Walks. (2020 - 2021)

Stoneware and Stained Porcelain.

Lockdown 2020 provided an opportunity to develop ideas about site and walking. Restricted to only 1 hour of walking per day meant devising circular routes from my home. Some routes known; other’s completely new. Once home I would draw from memory each walk, translating the drawn line into an abbreviated version of the original route, forming the basis for a ceramic form.

Sections of walks are represented by blocks of collaged porcelain, arranged intuitively on the surface of an armature stoneware form, creating a complex visual language of mapping a location. Coloured stains and oxides are added to porcelain to represent colours observed within these sites; with block areas of colour highlighting specific sections of each walking route.
